PLAYA DEL CARMEN, México—The Mayakoba Golf Classic’s Wednesday Pro-Am will feature 40 of golf’s best players in the world along with special guests Johnny Bench and Ozzie Smith, both members of the Baseball Hall of Fame.

The two Baseball Hall of Famers, PGA TOUR players and other amateurs from around the region will play Wednesday, February 25. The Wednesday Pro-Am marks the official beginning of the third annual Mayakoba Golf Classic at El Camaleón Golf Club in Playa del Carmen.
The Mayakoba Golf Classic is Mexico’s Only PGA TOUR Event. In a short two years, the tournament has brought considerable international recognition to Mexico and has raised awareness and opportunity for those interested in the game of golf. Sports fans and golf enthusiasts will be able to enjoy the Mayakoba Golf Classic for years to come. The tournament is currently scheduled through 2012.
Bench has been referred to as the "best catcher to ever play the game." Inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1999, Bench was twice the National League’s most valuable player and MVP of the 1976 World Series and played with the Cincinnati Reds his entire career. During one stretch in his career, he caught at least 100 games for 13 straight seasons.
Smith was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2002. He spent 19 years in the major leagues, first playing with the San Diego Padres and then for the St. Louis Cardinals and became on of the game’s best short stops. He won 13 consecutive Gold Glove Awards and still holds many major league assist records for his position.
