 | Congratulations Cameron Beckman, 2010 MGC Champion! |
|
Cameron Beckman won the 2010 Mayakoba Golf Classic for his third PGA TOUR title, closing with a 4-under 67 in the final round for a two-stroke victory over Brian Stuard and third-round leader Joe Durant.
The win by Beckman capped what had been a spectacular week of golf and fun for all; fans, players, sponsors and all in attendance. 2010 saw the Mayakoba Golf Classic welcome record crowds and a fierce competition for the winner’s share of the $3.6 million USD purse.
The 40-year-old Beckman, three strokes behind Durant at the start of the final round, finished at 15-under 269 on Mayakoba’s El Camaleón Golf Club. The title marks Beckman’s third career PGA TOUR victory; he also won the 2001 Southern Farm Bureau Classic and 2008 Frys.com Open.
“I’m cruising along playing and, all of a sudden, I know I'm tied for the lead," Beckman said. "That makes you nervous. Now you know you’ve got a chance to win and you’ve really got to tighten up and concentrate. You know, a lot of things go through your mind. Winning out here is tough. There's really no easy way to do it. I've done it a couple different ways now, but it's a great feeling."
What was the key to the victory?
"Without question, putting," Beckman said. "I mean, I hit the ball well, also, but this is probably the best I've putted in a long time. Probably since the last time I won. I just put a new putter in play two weeks ago, and just absolutely putted beautifully on these greens…just a beautiful week of putting."
The Mayakoba Golf Classic looks forward to a great year with Cameron Beckman representing the event as its defending champion! Be sure to follow Cameron all season long as he goes after his next PGA TOUR win.
