 | Inaugural MGC Champ Fred Funk Wins U.S. Senior Open |
|
Congratulations to 2007 Mayakoba Golf Classic Champion Fred Funk on winning the U.S. Senior Open Championship.
Funk shot a final round of 7-under-par 65 on August 2 at Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel, Indiana, to give him a total score of 20-under par for the tournament. His performance cemented a six-shot victory at the fourth major championship of the season on the Champions Tour.
Fans of the MGC will remember Funk’s dramatic win at the inaugural edition of México’s Only PGA TOUR Event in 2007. Funk won in fantastic fashion as he held on through a two-hole sudden death playoff to claim the title.
The win at the US Senior Open is Funk’s second major championship victory on the Champions Tour after he won the Jeld-Wen Tradition last year. Stay tuned to PGATOUR.com this week as Fred defends his title at the Jeld-Wen Tradition!

 | Charity Feature: Un Hogar con Amor |
|
In just three short years, the impact of México’s Only PGA TOUR Event has been seen and felt throughout Quintana Roo and México. As part of the PGA TOUR’s goal of giving back to charity and the local communities in which events are staged, the Mayakoba Golf Classic is proud to support numerous charities as well as positively impact the surrounding community in several other important ways.
Since its inception, the Mayakoba Golf Classic has donated nearly $700,000 USD to charitable organizations on the local, national and international levels. From helping the less fortunate to growing golf to protecting our precious environment and eco-system, Mayakoba Golf Classic charitable contributions assist several worthy causes and philanthropic organizations.
Among the groups receiving benefit from México’s Only PGA TOUR Event is Un Hogar con Amor. The foundation will be centered around several foster homes, currently under construction, located in Playa del Carmen. Un Hogar con Amor seeks to attend the needs of 80 to 120 children who will live in these homes. With 20 foster parents willing to help and provide the love and support needed, Un Hogar con Amor will offer warmth, education and guidance to the participating children. At the same time, the basis of family as a way of life will be nurtured.
In the months of August and September, the entire Quintana Roo community will be able to support Un Hogar con Amor by simply shopping and participating in the “Redondeo” campaign at Soriana and City Club. When completing your purchase, simply say you want to round your purchase off to the nearest whole peso and whatever change is rounded up will be donated to the foundation. While only a few cents at a time, the total can begin to add up quickly.
Un Hogar con Amor invites the community to get involved and provide children with the support and love that they deserve.
