Tournament time officially arrived for the Mayakoba Golf Classic on January 12 when the Greg Norman Production Company staff moved into its on-site tournament office to oversee the event's final preparations and construction. For the next month, the Mayakoba Golf Classic's tournament staff will call a temporary office trailer home as golf course and facility construction makes its final push to the second edition of México's only PGA TOUR event.

Over the next three weeks, hundreds of vendors, laborers, contractors and managers will work diligently and aggressively to build the temporary infrastructure that a PGA TOUR event requires.

Construction efforts will include transforming El Camaleón's cart barn into a world-class media center, re-erecting the PGA TOUR's most striking and impressive main entrance at the Mayakoba Pueblito, five (5) on-course hospitality venues, spectator bleachers, concession stands and more. Complementing these structure developments will be tournament signage, temporary electricity, restroom facilities, transportation systems and ecology programs; which together will form a world-class sporting venue at the spectacular Mayakoba Resort.

In a matter of weeks, El Camaleón Golf Club and the Mayakoba Resort will be turned from a peaceful and serene resort into one of the world's finest professional sporting venues.

As these final tournament preparations are made, the anticipation and excitement will continue to mount until tournament week when the Riviera Maya and Cancún regions of México will get to show off their piece of paradise to the rest of the world!

With four months of success, the Mayakoba Golf Classic's community golf program, Golf PARa Todos, continues to roar! The MGC hosted another successful edition of Golf PARa Todos on Sunday, January 20, as nearly 300 attendees enjoyed a fun-filled afternoon of golf, food and fun at El Camaleón Golf Club.

The popular event again provided guests with a variety of activities including: golf instruction from several local golf professionals, a putting and chipping contest, an exciting raffle and a spectacular taco buffet lunch provided by Yaxche.

Event winners took home tremendous prizes including hats, umbrellas, gift certificates to Yaxche and weekly grounds tickets to the 2008 Mayakoba Golf Classic. One lucky winner took home the grand prize, a pair of weekly El Camino hospitality tickets valued at $700 USD.

Be sure to mark your calendar for the February edition of Golf PARa Todos, which is scheduled for Tuesday, February 19, at 3 p.m. at El Camaleón Golf Club. This exciting tournament week event will feature special guest PGA TOUR professional Esteban Toledo and several other thrilling activities and surprises.

The Mayakoba Golf Classic is just two weeks away and our tournament's Ambassadors are getting ready for the action! The 2008 Ambassador group will feature over 400 dedicated and generous individuals who will help make México's second-annual PGA TOUR event a true success.

If you have signed up to be an Ambassador, please take a moment to review a few important notes as you make your final preparations:

Ambassador Scheduling: All Ambassadors should have already received an email which includes your schedule and job assignment. If you did not receive this email, please contact the Tournament Office at joe.mazzeo@gwse.com. In the event you are unable to honor your commitment, please contact the Tournament Staff immediately so your position can be filled by another Ambassador.

Ambassador Training: Training sessions for Ambassadors will be held at various times throughout the day on Saturday, February 9, and Sunday, February 10. All training sessions will be held at the MGC Embassy, located within the Mayakoba Resort. Each Ambassador will receive detailed information on which session they should attend, based upon your job assignment.

Ambassador Uniforms: Ambassador uniforms will consist of a Greg Norman Collection golf shirt & hat. This uniform, your credentials, & additional Ambassador information will be distributed at the training sessions.

Ambassador Parking: Parking for all Ambassadors will be located adjacent to the MGC Embassy located within the Mayakoba Resort. Security personnel will direct you to the appropriate parking location. Please be sure to bring your Ambassador parking credential to access the property.

Ambassador uniforms will consist of a Greg Norman Collection golf shirt & hat; Ambassadors are asked to wear khaki pants, shorts or skirt. This uniform, your credentials & additional Ambassador information will be distributed at the training sessions.
