 | 2008 Champion Brian Gay Featured on PGATOUR.com Fashion Insider |
|
Anyone who saw Brian Gay during his championship performance here at Mayakoba in 2008 or during his title defense in 2009 knows he has a flair for standing out on the golf course—not only with his great play but with his unique and stylish wardrobe. PGATOUR.com recently featured Gay, a three-time winner on TOUR, in its Fashion Insider section.
In a wide-ranging interview, Gay talked about his approach to style, and how it has a direct impact on his play, on apparel scripting and what he thinks of golf fashion blogs and Web forum discussions, along with the most commonly seen pro-am fashion faux pas. The link to the complete article and interview is available through the Mayakoba Golf Classic’s Facebook page.
Among the highlights were Gay’s comments about the connection between dressing well and playing well. “Look good, feel good, play good,” he said. “This has always been my motto. I believe that the better I feel about the way I look, the better I feel about the clothes I have on, and the better I feel about the way my clothes fit me, the better I feel overall and this will help me play better and perform at a higher level.”
Gay’s words of wisdom can certainly be valuable for the average recreational golfer when it comes to confidence in one’s self on the course, but he also offered additional observations and advice for those whom he often sees at PGA TOUR pro-ams.
“A lot of guys don't care how they look—they don't match sometimes. For instance, they wear black pants with brown shoes or something like that,” he added. “A lot of guys fail to wear the correct sizes or clothes that fit them properly and they get sizes that are way too big.”
His overall attitude toward the connection between fashion and golf has definitely proven successful for Gay whose career earnings on the PGA TOUR total nearly $14 million USD , including more than $6.7 million USD since his win at Mayakoba in 2008.
