With the inaugural PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup in the books, now is a perfect chance to look back and see how participants from the inaugural Mayakoba Golf Classic fared in the season-long points race.
Among Mayakoba Golf Classic participants grabbing headlines during the Playoffs was veteran Mark Calcavecchia, who finished tied for second place at the TOUR Championship behind winner and FedExCup Champion Tiger Woods. Calcavecchia earned 5,500 points for his performance at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia, which vaulted him to eighth place in the final standings. His eighth-place finish is good for a season-ending bonus of $600,000 USD. Calcavecchia tied for 41st at El Camaleón in February at the Mayakoba Golf Classic.
Other MGC participants advancing to the final stage of the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup were Brandt Snedeker and Boo Weekley. Snedeker tied for 29th at the TOUR Championship last week, which left him in 20th place on the FedExCup standings. Weekley tied for 21st at the TOUR Championship and finished in 25th place in the season-long points race. Snedeker and Weekley earned FedExCup bonuses of $225,000 USD and $200,000 USD, respectively.
In addition to these performances at the TOUR Championship, participants from the Mayakoba Golf Classic fared well overall during the inaugural PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup. In total, 43 MGC participants advanced to the Playoffs and competed in the first playoff event—The Barclays. Entering week two and the second playoff event, the Deutsche Bank Championship, twenty-nine golfers who were part of the field for México's First PGA TOUR Event remained. At the third playoff event, the BMW Championship, 12 of the 70 players were participants at Mayakoba.
